Old Testament Overview - Part 2

Plenty of authors contribute to the 39 books in the Old Testament. Most Bibles are not compiled in chronological order, but each book does tie together.Many are easier to read than others, several detailed, few are wonderfully poetic, and a hearty portion include great historical references. I've given a brief description of each section and shared why I believe time is worth dedicating to devouring each portion of Scripture.

Solitude

The spiritual discipline of solitude is shown throughout Scripture in both the old and new testaments and the practice has continued throughout generations by those pursuing faith in Jesus. Retreating to a quiet place to be alone is the beginning; engaging the Lord when alone is putting solitude into useful practice. Solitude is not a means to another end. The spiritual discipline is the end itself. Solitude's goal is not to become something more or retreat from all other obligations; rather, it's purpose is coming to be with the Holy. Retreat from the physical and connect with the Spiritual.

Communion

Where it started: Most believers in Jesus consider communion a sacrament, a practice that has been commanded by God that has a divine element to it.

Why it continues: The apostles then teach followers of Jesus to practice the sacrament.

How it's done: Communion is practiced for believers to remember.

Check your Soul

In prayer I often start with the mind and work my way down to the soul believing it to be the deepest, most spiritual connection we have to God. Often are souls are what we battle in silence. We may not even be aware our souls are being stirred, but indeed, they are real, the feelings run deep, and they seem to be more connected to the Eternal than the rest of us.
